Mobility solutions for efficient, safe, and sustainable travel

The Mobilidata programme of the Flemish Government in Belgium (mobilidata.be/en) aims to enable road-users to travel more efficiently, safely, easily and sustainably. Public and private partners co-create mobility solutions providing the road-users with (near) real-time information based on digital infrastructure, smart traffic lights and high-quality data sources. As a result, policymakers, businesses, governments, citizens and app-builders work together to build an open and lasting C-ITS ecosystem where mobility participants and/or road infrastructure operators are able to exchange information. The use-cases already deployed across Flanders using such technologies can be subdivided into the following categories: traffic legislation and advice, personal support and risk reduction, intelligent traffic lights, navigation and parking management. The services as well as the end-user application focus on different modes of transport.

This Task is focused on the continuation of deployed operational services and on the next steps in the further roll-out and consolidation of the Mobilidata programme. The existing network of (i)TLCs will be expanded with an additional contingent of around 150 iTLC’s, and the data provided will be improved. The current ecosystem will be expanded to include additional service providers. Existing and new implementations will be further evaluated to assess their impact and user acceptance, aligning them with the ecosystem expectations. Lastly, the Mobilidata programme will harbour international collaborations by providing input to the C-Roads Platform and by creating an understanding with partners in other countries deploying similar projects.

KPIs: Around 150 new iTLC’s in the Flanders region (Belgium).

Type of implementation: While most of the deployment is completely new, the existing systems will be upgraded, where feasible, or replaced. All elements are connected to the Mobilidata backbone, which implies addition to the existing system.
