C-ITS deployment in Bavaria (Cooperative Bavaria)

With an established cooperative centre in the Bavarian Traffic Information Centre VIZ (TIC), this Task will focus on the deployment of approx. 100 C-ITS roadside units (RSUs), either new or upgraded depending on use cases to be defined in detail. The implementation of three use cases is envisaged, including prioritisation of emergency vehicles and public transport at traffic lights, interactive green light assist, emergency and hazard warning, roadworks warning (trailers, roadside warning beacons etc.), and others (e.g., railway crossing train approach applications or wildlife accident protection systems).

Data generated is provided to the NAP. From there, the data is taken up by various service providers and considered in navigation devices.

All positive impacts of cooperative systems on road users are realisable. Together with the cooperative centre (see https://bayerninfo.de/) the VERKKO project completes the C-ITS setup for the free state of Bavaria. Among others, C-ITS is expected to significantly reduce accident numbers, increase road safety due to timely warnings, improve the traffic flow and decrease CO2 emissions e.g. due to avoidance of unnecessary breaking actions. The Bavarian C-ITS system thus provides the technical backbone for C-ITS applications in Bavaria.

KPIs: Around 100 new RSUs deploying three C-ITS use cases at traffic lights on the secondary road network in Bavaria.
