C-ITS infrastructure support for automated shuttles at traffic lights

In the Harburg district, hvv hop's on-demand fleet will be supplemented by automated shuttles in the coming years. To ensure safe and efficient operation of these shuttles at intersections, at least 7 traffic lights will be equipped with new RSU to provide the Signal Phase and Timing Information (SPTI) and Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA) services. New RSUs will also enable the traffic signal prioritisation (TSP) for public transport busses and shuttles.

The traffic lights to be equipped will be identified together with the relevant stakeholders (vhh, LSBG, HHVA, and shuttle providers). In addition to the complexity of the intersection for automated vehicles, coordination with other construction measures will also be considered for operational reasons. This is followed by scheduling of the work and finally equipping the traffic lights with RSUs and integrating them into the C-ITS systems of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

After the construction work has been completed, the shuttle provider will carry out test runs followed by any necessary technical adjustments. With the help of external support, the added value of the three C-ITS services for automated driving and data quality will be assessed.

KPIs: Equipment of at least 7 traffic lights with new RSUs in the Harburg district in Hamburg to provide SPTI, GLOSA and TSP to automated shuttles.
