Interface for enhanced traffic management with C-ITS
With #transmove, a traffic management tool has been developed in recent years that is able to generate a traffic forecast for the next 15 or 30 minutes based on current traffic situation data, current traffic information (e.g. roadworks), an agentbased simulation, and historical traffic information. Over the next few years, this system is to be further developed into a Mobility Operating System (MOS) and made available to key stakeholders (traffic authorities, traffic control centres, transport companies, etc.) as a joint traffic management tool.
To enhance the quality of the tool, this Task will focus on the development of an interface with the C-ITS Management System (CMS). In the first phase, this interface will facilitate two key functions: 1) transferring probe vehicle data (PVD) from the CMS to the MOS to improve traffic information and reduce reliance on externally purchased floating car data (FCD), and 2) transmitting current roadworks information from the MOS to the CMS for processing, followed by sending it out through RSUs on a location-specific basis via ITS-G5.
The use of PVD in the MOS increases the quality of the traffic situation forecast and thus enables more appropriate traffic management, which leads to a more efficient traffic flow.
Furthermore, within this Task an interface between the MOS and the NAP will be set up to provide traffic information, such as short-term traffic forecasts and C-ITS improved roadwork information.
KPIs: Probe vehicle data from all equipped traffic lights (at least 7 equipped within T2.09 plus approx. 33 equipped outside the scope of VERKKO) will be integrated into the mobility operating system.
Type of implementation: integrating PVD into MOS is an upgrade of an existing system and for providing DENM is an addition to existing systems.
