Equipping police fleet with C-ITS

If in a C-ITS-environment a vehicle (road user) approaches a police car, the driver will be informed directly about the danger zone and can adapt his driving behaviour accordingly. In addition, the C-ITS function can be used to alert road users to an approaching police vehicle before they are heard/seen - keyword "rescue lane". After the successful roll-out of four C-ITS police cars in a previous project, in this Task the Hessian police will equip its fleet on the autobahn with C-ITS light bar units (HLN-EPVA & HLN-ERVI: “Hazardous Location Notification – Emergency or Prioritised Vehicle Approaching” & “Emergency or Rescue/Recovery Vehicle in Intervention”). This Task will include the procurement and the installation of new C-ITS light bar units on at least 40 vehicles as well as the basic prerequisite for their successful operation, i.e. the connection and operation of a Public-Key-Infrastructure (PKI) to achieve the C-ITS security objectives of confidentiality and integrity.

KPIs: C-ITS service "Emergency Vehicle Approaching" in operational use in at least 40 police vehicles.
