C-ITS Rollout on Maintenance Vehicles
This task comprises equipping six existing, specially equipped, heavy duty maintenance vehicles with an upgraded C-ITS onboard unit (OBU) including the Maintenance Vehicle Warning (MVW) service. The OBU will be placed in the vehicle's light bar. When stopped or driving at low speed, the maintenance vehicles will be able to send a warning message to other vehicles to avoid collisions. Deployment will mostly take place on vehicles that are frequently used on the B178 corridor in eastern Saxony, which is part of the comprehensive network and leads from the A4 motorway to the border with Poland and the Czech Republic and on towards Liberec. Some of the equipped vehicles (at least two) will frequently operate on TEN-T corridor incident bypass routes and TEN-T connectors to the Urban Node of Dresden.
For European-wide consistency, the MVW service will be deployed according to the most recent ETSI and C-Roads Platform specifications. Through a service contractor, the OBUs will be connected to a public-key-infrastructure so that the message will be immediately used and displayed in C-ITS equipped vehicles.
