Roadside traffic information system for Berlin

The state of Berlin maintains a Traffic Information Centre whose task is to inform road users and the media, as well as (public and private) transport companies and the administration about the current and forecast situation in Berlin's transport network and to make recommendations. Part of this system is a roadside traffic information system to display current traffic information to road users based on the connection to the Traffic Information Centre with its digital mobility infrastructure analyses. This information is necessary for the quick interaction to increases traffic safety, harmonises the utilisation of the road network and improves the flow of inner-city traffic, as road users are informed about the best routes and detours at an early stage.

However, some information boards of the system were already put into operation in 2002. Half of the information boards are around 20 years old and have already clearly exceeded their service life. As a result, the information boards are very susceptible to faults and therefore require additional maintenance. Due to their advanced age, it is no longer possible for the currently contracted company to extend the maintenance contract, as spare parts are no longer available for the technology. To maintain this system and the fulfilment of the TIC's tasks, and thus continue guaranteeing the flow of information and benefitting from the downstream positive effects on traffic, this Task will be devoted to the renewal and upgrade of up to 13 information boards, which is essential and must be carried out urgently.
