Optical detection and verification of wrong way driver (WWD)

The “Optical Detection and Verification of Wrong-Way Drivers” project entails the supply and installation of a stateof-the-art system designed to detect and verify wrong-way drivers. This system combines Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras or alternative sensor technology for the initial detection of wrong-way drivers and CCTV cameras for the subsequent verification process. In an innovative approach, leveraging ANPR cameras not only for the primary objective of wrong-way driver detection and verification but also for a secondary goal of implementing a Journey Time Management System.

In the frame of this Task, IE_TII will deploy and demonstrate WWD systems (featuring sensors, ANPR cameras and, where appropriate, warning signs) in up to 30 locations/sites.

KPIs: WWD systems deployed at up to 30 locations/sites. Those locations/sites are mainly at junctions and slip roads merging onto the M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, M8, M18 and M19 motorways as well as select critical junctions connecting to National Roads across Ireland. Each site will feature sensors, cameras and where appropriate warning signs.

Type of implementation: Completely new implementation at certain sites and possible replacement of past implementations on other sites.
