A90 Rome Ring Road – Smart Road

The scope of this Task is the implementation of Smart Road infrastructure (based on high-speed fibre optic network connectivity) listed below in the KPIs, along the A90 Motorway (Rome Ring Road) between the “Casilina” junction and the “Appia Antica” tunnel entrance.

This will allow the construction of a high-speed network, based on optical fibre ring and high-performance network switches, that will guarantee high availability and capability for the two Smart Road data centres ( out of the scope of the Task and of VERKKO) based at Smart Road “Green Islands” that are located along the A90 Motorway. This intervention will allow the direct connections between the two Smart Road sections recently implemented outside the scope of VERKKO along the A90 Motorway. It will also enable the interconnection of the “Appia antica” Tunnel to the new Smart Road fibre optic network.

KPIs: The scope of the Task includes the typical Anas Smart Road subsystems implementation:

1) CCTV and Automatic Incident Detection Systems that will consists of up to 25 Smart Video Cameras;

2) Dual Technology Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communication System that will consists of up to 9 Roadside Units;

3) Supervisory Control Systems that will consists of up to 25 Remote Input/Output Modules that transmit alarms and signals about the Smart Road electrical subsystems status;

4) LPR/Kemler Codes video subsystems used for the license plate and hazards transportation recognition that will consists of up to 2 cameras. All these technologies will be installed, as described above, in the section of the A90 Rome Ring Motorway between the “Casilina” junction and the “Appia Antica” tunnel entrance and the arrangement of technologies will be as a quincunx pattern.

Type of implementation: New system, implementing Smart Cameras and V2I/V2X communication on a section of the A90 Ring Road Motorway and expansion of the Anas Smart Road already implemented on other sections of the A90 Ring Road Motorway.
