Improved commuter parking information and road safety

This Task focuses on the following key activities: deploying sensors to monitor commuter parking spaces, installing automatic red-light enforcement (RLE) systems on critical stop lines, adding new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras with Agreement Dangerous Goods (ADR) recognition, and upgrading existing ANPR cameras for ADR management. The selected sites are located on urban and suburban routes connected to the Brenner corridor and its branches.

Standard interfaces will be developed to share the new data with the Autonomous Province of Trento and the A22 Brenner Highway, while the Municipality’s Variable Message Sign (VMS) software will be upgraded for message sharing with other public / private users. The real-time data collected will be accessible to the project partners and other stakeholders in a non-discriminatory way in line with European standards and regulations.

The gathered information will help the Municipality of Trento better monitor and plan actions for more sustainable mobility, for improved road safety, and to refine its mobility and emergency plans, especially regarding dangerous goods transit. Regional public / private users will also benefit by providing improved multimodal services and real-time information to road users.

The main benefits include more efficient use of commuter parking areas, reduced accidents and vehicle speeds at critical intersections, and improved management of dangerous goods transit risks in urban areas.

KPIs: Monitoring of up to 8 commuter parking spaces; installation of automatic RLE systems at around 23 critical stop lines; installation of up to 10 new ANPR cameras with ADR management; Upgrade of up to 60 existing ANPR cameras for ADR management; upgrade of the existing VMS software for data sharing. The selected sites for outdoor equipment are located on urban and suburban routes connected to the Brenner corridor and its branches.
