Cycling Data for SUMPS and Smart Cycling in NRW

Urban and road planners in NRW urgently need real-time / accurate cycling data to better understand cyclists' behaviour and take it into account when planning new allocation of cycling spaces and smart systems for cyclists. In addition, data collected from different sources are needed to enable C-ITS services for cyclists and smart cycling applications. Such data need to comply with European requirements for harmonised data so to be used seamlessly. The purpose of this Task is to define the necessary requirements through exchanges with other European partners (from VERKKO, NAPCORE, and the C-Roads Platform).

This Task will focus on developing and implementing a cycling information system to collect data from various sources (such as measurement units, floating bike data, etc.) to monitor cyclists’ activities and maps them on the road infrastructure. This information system will be the future foundation for decision making process of relevant stakeholders. Decisions will be better and easier to make and have a positive effect on cost efficiency.

KPIs: Four main actions: Pilot operation of the cycling information system. Commissioning of the backbone of the cycling information system. Connection of various data sources to the cycling information system. Publication of the derived data.

Type of implementation: New implementation.
