Advanced Truck Information Exchange Pilot in the Port of La Spezia
Trucks communicate location and speed to a central traffic management system, which provides live updates and route recommendations. In case of congestion, the system redirects trucks to holding areas (namely in the dry port or in inland terminals like Parma or Piacenza) to prevent port overcrowding. Additionally, digital document management supports traffic forecasting, route optimization, and analytics, helping identify bottlenecks and improve infrastructure. These features enhance efficiency, traffic flow, and decision-making.
This Task will be dedicated to run a pilot implementing a communication system compliant with the ITS Directive (EU) 2023/2661 to connect trucks moving along corridors from/to the Port of La Spezia and the inland terminals along the TEN-T corridors, especially from/to the Northern Italian inland terminals (i.e. Parma and Piacenza). This system will facilitate real-time information exchange to improve efficiency, safety, and coordination between trucks, terminals, and port operations.
KPIs: At least one new functionality implemented.
Type of implementation: Upgrade of existing systems.
