Predictive flows optimisation for the ports of the North Tyrrhenian Sea

In the frame of this Task, the Port System Authority of the North Tyrrhenian Sea (Ports of Livorno-Piombino) will develop a predictive analytics platform of the ports of the North Tyrrhenian Sea, to be deployed as digital solution to provide support to freight vehicles in transit along the corridor. Integrating real and forecasted traffic flow data inside and around the port as well as towards other ports, the system will anticipate the logistical needs and reduce congestion along the corridor, thus improving sustainability of the road traffic management and environmental impact of transport activities with the ultimate goal of enhancing infrastructure resilience against physical and cyber (hybrid) threats.

The approach combines traditional C-ITS activities with traffic forecasting linked to environmental assessments (pollution emissions) to reduce environmental impact.

The predictive platform will connect to environmental sensors and use AI to propose routes that minimise emissions, while ensuring connectivity with key road infrastructures. The predictive platform developed in the frame of this Task will enhance the Port Monitoring System with real-time operational data for emergency management and will provide traffic and environmental data for planning and simulation. Ultimately, the predictive analytics platform will optimise multi-port last mile management, gathering data from traffic flows and environmental sensors.

KPIs: One predictive platform developed, validated and piloted. At least 3 environmental sensors per port and at least 3 C-ITS sensors per port.

Type of implementation: Completely new implementation.
