This year’s International Transport Forum (ITF) 2026 once again highlighted one of the most pressing challenges in global mobility:

strengthening transport resilience through digitalisation, cross‑border cooperation, and sustained investment in intelligent infrastructure. Across ministerial sessions and expert panels, ITF emphasized that Europe’s transport systems must become more robust, data‑driven, and adaptive.

We were proud to present the VERKKO European co‑funded project at the booth of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, the project’s lead beneficiary.

During the official exhibition tour, Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder visited the booth. Our International Coordinator Björn Siebert introduced the project to Parliamentary State Secretary Hirte and his delegation. Together with his colleagues, he explained the C‑ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) components that are being co‑funded within VERKKO and how they directly support the resilience priorities highlighted at ITF 2026.

Participants were able to experience these innovations firsthand during live demo drives, showcasing the Road Works Warning (RWW) and Maintenance Vehicle use cases. These demonstrations clearly illustrated how C‑ITS enhances safety, operational efficiency, and system robustness — exactly the type of digital capability ITF 2026 identified as essential for Europe’s transport future.

Strengthening resilience through cooperation, innovation, and European co‑funding: that’s what VERKKO stands for.
